Membranes provide for phase separation, most commonly for solids from liquids but also for oil/aqueous streams. The retained phase often controls the flux and sometimes the permeation of solute products. This presentation will examine observed behaviors, explanations and efforts to model those behaviors along with operational strategies to influence the behavior.
