Gene Delivery

Chair(s)

Andreadis, S. T., State University of New York -SUNY at Buffalo

The field of gene therapy and vaccine design has made significant strides in the past several years, but significant challenges remain, particularly in the design and optimization of gene delivery vehicles. This session will focus on issues related to vector design, both viral and synthetic. These issues will include investigations of the mechanism of gene delivery by various vectors, including analysis of interactions between vectors, tissues, and cells in the steps involved in the gene delivery pathway. In addition, emphasis will be placed on the design and enhancement of vectors to improve their capabilities, including efficiency and targeting, and we encourage analysis of the structure-function relationship of delivery vehicles. Finally, this session will also discuss methods to improve the production of both viral and nonviral vehicles.
