This session will concentrate on theoretical principles and practical considerations that underlie the use of membranes in the downstream processing of biopharmaceutical products (e.g. microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, virus filtration). Membranes find many applications in the recovery and purification many biomolecules (including DNA, therapeutic proteins, and vaccines). Membranes are also widely used in biomedical applications such as blood oxygenation and dialysis. In this session papers are requested that describe the application of membranes in the biotechnology and biomedical industries. Papers describing advances in theoretical aspects of membrane processes as well as papers from industry describing new membrane applications are sought.
