(106c) Exergy Recuperation Technology for Energy and Materials Co-Production

The concept of exergy is important in the analysis of sustainable energy systems. Due to large irreversibility in combustion process the exergy loss in the conversion of chemical energy to thermal energy form is predominant over most of energy and material co-production systems. Exergy loss can be reduced by converting the combination of chemical energy with high exergy rate and thermal energy with low exergy rate into thermal energy with medium exergy rate. The utilization of waste heat from energy and material co-production systems for this thermal energy is what is meant by 'exergy recuperation'. In the present paper, the concept of energy and material co-production using exergy recuperation technology will be explained in conjunction with advanced integrated coal gasification combined cycle (A-IGCC/IGFC).
