An optimization algorithm for solving mixed integer problems was applied on an ideal two-product reactive distillation column for fuel optimization. A simulation model of ideal reactive distillation column is used for simulation step of the optimization problem. The process was optimized for number of trays in the stripping reactive and rectifying section along with pressure in the column and the two feed locations. The optimization resulted in savings up to 6% in terms of fuel cost maintaining the same products concentrations. The obtained results were cross tested by brute force method for verification. *Authors would like to thank the support of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals to carry out this work.
