In this study, a four-zone and a three-zone SMB systems for the separation of glucose and fructose are developed on the basis of pinched wave design method. First, we measure a series of intrinsic parameters that are used for input parameters in the pinched wave design equations. The operating conditions from the pinched wave design are then validated with detailed rate-model simulations. The transient column profiles as well as steady state column profiles are obtained to investigate the dynamic behaviors of each concentration wave under the pinched wave design conditions.
