The general working characteristics of flex-fuel engines with different gasoline-ethanol blend concentrations are presented. Analysis of emissions was performed in a 1.4-liter engine powered vehicle, tested in a chassis dynamometer following FTP-75 cycle. The engine was then tested for performance in a dynamometer bench, according to NBR/ISO 1585 standard. Ethanol concentration in gasoline was varied from 0 to 100%. The results establish the ideal concentration of each fuel to optimize the engine performance and exhaust emissions.
