We describe a new nanoliter scale chemical encapsulation and release platform. The containers can be remotely guided and their contents can be remotely released to spatially engineer arbitrary chemical concentration profiles and chemical reactions in microfluidic devices. Hence the containers provide an attractive platform for engineering spatially controlled chemical reactions in microfluidic systems.
