Micro/nanofluidics has great potentials for many biomedical applications. In this presentation, several examples are given with the emphasis on applications in biosensors, drug/gene delivery and single molecule manipulation. An integrated microfluidic device on a compact disk (CD) is shown how to perform enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) step-by-step automatically by simply controlling the rotation speed of the CD. In my second example, polymer nanonozzle array is introduced and applied to study the delivery of gene/drug into cells at the present of electric field. To produce multifunctional carriers for drug/gene delivery, cross-slot microfluidic devices are also designed and applied to perform single DNA manipulations by electrokinetic-driven microflows.
