Model membranes on supports of well defined geometries are very useful to determine mechanical properties. Yet, questions of substrate choice and its influence on the bilayer create additional complexity when analyzing bilayer systems. Coarse-grained molecular dynamic models of supported lipid bilayers [Cooke, I. R. and M. Deserno (2005)] allow for studies at longer length scales and time scales than are available with atomistic models. We present results using such models for calculations of bending, density profile, area per lipid, tension, and variation in the normal component of the pressure tensor.
