(170d) Effective Use of E-Books in Chemical Engineering Classroom

The use of technical publications available online in academic libraries is below the level expected in the Internet-dominated society. The severity of the problem depends on the type of the publication with journals doing the best, especially in research universities and among graduate students, and e-books the worst. There are several reasons for poor performance of e-books, including difficulty of finding on library portals and domination of the Web by general search engines like Google. This paper explores the ways to remedy this situation by including e-books in the curricula. Successful integration of e-books available from www.knovel.com in chemical and chemical engineering curricula at leading US universities is discussed.
