Ceramic Microfluidic Devices: Design, Development and Applications
Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 5:00pm to 5:30pm
The advantage of using a ceramic micromixer to accelerate the mixing rate of two laminar fluid streams is analyzed using computer fluid dynamics. The effect of diffusion rate and the effective contact time for realizing a fully mixed flow in ceramic micromixers with different microchannel geometry are highlighted. A 3D working micromixer was built using multilayer ceramic technology to further understand and compare with the CFD model results. Discussion also concentrates on the manufacturability of the 3D micromixer. Various potential applications are explored.
