As a leading engineering and construction company, Bechtel Corporation has been using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze its designs of different projects. These numerical models help to identify potential problems and optimize the production during the designing phase. The CFD models also help to visualize problem occurring in the field and provide different mitigations. The advanced simulation of the fluid dynamics has played an important role during the design process. The boundary for applications utilizing CFD has no limits. The scale of the simulations ranges from a cavitations model of a valve to air recirculation of the entire production plant, to turbulence inside a pipe and the dispersion of a hazard gas can also be modeled. Multiphase simulations can provide information such as the flow patterns. Transient models of a storage unit can identify potential problem caused by sudden impact of high velocity intake or uneven distribution. These are just a few application examples have benefited from CFD analysis. The capabilities of CFD simulation help Bechtel to ensure the quality of designs. The prevention of potential problems leads to saving in time and money also help to promote the value of computational simulations.
