(381b) Sustainability Curriculum Development At Lamar University

Sustainability has become one of the global concerns for the future state of human well-beings. In chemical engineering society, such concerns have been driving many big companies enthusiastically to develop various activities for helping their business toward sustainability. This new situation will inevitably project a challenge to our education at university, i.e., how to arm the future generations of chemical engineers to integrate sustainability into their future career development?

This paper will introduce the sustainability curriculum development at Lamar University since fall semester of 2005. Currently, the sustainability course has become the core course of the Ph.D. program in Department of Chemical Engineering. The course contents, instructors' teaching experiences, as well as the students' feedback will be presented. Meanwhile, future thrusts for the improvement of this course will also be discussed.
