Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) materials are used widely in the chemical industry for water treatment or gas separation membrane and other electric devices, since it possesses remarkable thermal and chemical stability, excellent strength and flexibility, as well as good film-forming properties, while thermal kinetic properties was rarely studied. In this research, different products of PVDF, such as powder, membrane, alkaline treated membrane and PVDF/modified clay nanocomposite membranes were tested. Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) results were introduced to the Coats-Redfern method and obtained the kinetic parameters. A generalization of Coats-Redfern equation for more than 25 kinds of g(X) functions was summarized. Activation energy (Ea), reaction order (n) and pre-exponential factor (A) were calculated by this method. During the process of calculation, each mechanical expression of g(X) was studied and the specialty was figured out.
