For selective removal of acidic gas from flue gas, especially H2S and CO2, alkanolamines are widely used over the last few decades. Commercial alkanolamines for carbon dioxide absorption are monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP). In selecting CO2 absorbent, there exist several criteria such as CO2 absorption capacity, kinetics, chemical stability, corrosiveness, heat of reaction and regeneration energy and so on. In this study, for searching novel CO2 solvent, simple screening test method was developed and various amines are tested especially alkanolamines, amino acids and non-functionalized amines. From the results of screening test, maximum CO2 absorption capacity and kinetics are derived for each solvent by CO2 analyzer. The increase in temperature of solvent due to exothermic reaction with CO2 is also measured. Then, for several candidate solvents, vapor-liquid equilibrium test were conducted in an equilibrium cell. The gas phase was analyzed by gas chromatograph. From the results of equilibrium test, cyclic capacity and heat of reaction are derived. By comparing these important factors, alternative novel solvent was found that can be a great challenger to MEA. The measurements of some physical properties will be done in our future work.
