Downstream processes will soon be required to rapidly capture and purify 50 kg lots in an economical and robust way. This presentation will discuss the capability of existing and future chromatography resins to handle such challenges from both a technical and economical perspective. Focus will be on the possibility to minimize the number of unit operations and on the optimization of specific unit operations such as initial capture and purification by Protein A affinity chromatography and final polishing by novel resins of multimodal character. The direct impact of different downstream scenarios on process economy and productivity will also be discussed.
