Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer I

This session will highlight engineering approaches to understand problems in cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases and to develop advanced therapeutic strategies. Emphasis will be on studies of transport, heat transfer, kinetics, and cell and tissue mechanics specifically relevant to the areas of tumor biology, metastasis, and vascular pathophysiology. Topics of interest include angiogenesis, atherosclerosis, cancer cell adhesion and migration, cancer cell signaling and intracellular metabolism. Of specific interest are studies involving novel therapeutic strategies, including molecular/cell-based therapies, with aims to inhibit cancer progression and metastasis and to regenerate new functional blood vessels.
