The focus of this symposium is on the interfacial and deposition processes leading to the fouling of membranes, filters, and clogging in porous media. Insight into such fundamental processes is critical to the development and improvement of water treatment technologies. Colloids and microorganisms are ubiquitous in aquatic environments, and understanding their fate is of paramount importance to engineers working in the fields of water quality control, desalination, and other related industrial processes. Both fundamental and applied contributions are sought.
