The presence of ionogenic species within polymers gives rise to interesting phenomena with wide-ranging applications; such ion-containing polymers (polyelectrolytes and ionomers) will be the subject of this session. Papers discussing novel materials (polymers, gels, composites) and applications(batteries, photovoltaic cells, sensors, supercapacitors) as well as those devoted to improving the understanding of properties (such as but not limited to, transport mechanisms, self-assembly behavior, polymer structure and conformation, mechanical properties) will be considered. The underlying theme connecting the talks will be the influence of ions on polymeric materials in the areas mentioned above. Discussions on new perspectives and fundamental investigations are especially welcome as are both experimental and theoretical results.
