(295c) Understanding Microreaction Systems through Rutherford Aris' Contributions to Reaction Engineering
AIChE Annual Meeting
2008
2008 Annual Meeting
Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division
Invited: In Memory of Rutherford Aris II
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 1:30pm to 2:00pm
The precise control of fluid contacting patterns, heat and mass transfer, and reaction modes inherent in microchemical systems make them perfect models for illustrating the many fundamental contributions by Rutherford Aris to reaction engineering. Cases studies are drawn from chemical synthesis relevant to fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, catalysis for energy conversion, and synthesis of colloidal nanoparticles. Emphasis is placed on applications enabled by integrated microsystems.
