One Hundred Years of Environmental Law and Policy: Waste
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 3:15pm to 4:00pm
This presentation will lay out the history of solid waste disposal, from the very first municipal ordinances adopted in the United States, to attempts to prevent disease in the 1940s by prohibiting open burning dumps and transitioning into sanitary landfills, to today's sophisticated municipal solid waste landfills, recycling and "flow control regulation."
Attendees should expect to gain an appreciation for the developments in solid waste regulation as they occurred in U.S. history, and why solid waste disposal is regulated as it is today.
