Engineering to Management Transition: Early Career Opportunities
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 4:30pm to 4:55pm
There is a great secret in process manufacturing: Engineers are delivering millions of dollars in results, but nobody knows about it! Engineering staff is reduced because management can't prove their value. There is a major gap between what engineers are delivering, and what management is seeing.
This gap between engineers and management can be a source of frustration, career stagnation, and poor business decision-making. However, by shifting focus, adding metrics, and communicating more clearly, there can be dramatic bottom-line improvements. Management can make better business decisions, and engineers can be recognized for their contributions.
This paper discusses some practical techniques to identify opportunities for improvement, capture them, and deliver measurable results to management. Several case studies are presented, demonstrating methods to document the value of engineering work. Attendees will learn practical techniques to show how engineering work delivers business results. Managers will learn how to get the information they want from their engineering staff.
