This study aim to examine the performance of an axial impeller, KPC, and a mixed-flow impeller, 45º PBT. The Pumping number, Momentum number and velocity profiles of the impellers were compared. Each impeller was tested with 2 diameters (T/2 and T/3). Two different clearances (C = T/3 and T/4) and two different Reynolds numbers (Re = 30,000 and 40,000) were studied. The data were collected using Particle Image Velocimetry. The circulation patterns were influenced for the impeller shape. The PBT T/2 impeller reached the highest value of axial velocities. The Pumping numbers were influenced for the 3 parameters described in this work: type of impeller (shape and diameter), Reynolds number and clearance. The biggest value of Pumping number (0.71) was reached for PBT T/2 using the following conditions: Re = 40,000 and C = T/3. The smallest value (0.40) was reached for KPC T/3 when the Reynolds number was 40,000; in this case, the pumping number was equal for both clearances. The biggest value of the Momentum number (2.75 N) was reached for PBT T/2 using C = T/3 and Re = 40,000.
