Quality by Design leverages a set of tools intended to ensure that a designed manufacturing process will consistently produce good quality product through the lifetime it is commercially manufactured. To ensure that such designs are robust through process scale-ups and other sources of variability in the commercial manufacturing process, manufacturers seek to understand and define the design space and then to further define and design the associated control spaces and control strategies. Fundamental to the tool set are advanced modeling tools. This includes both first principle modeling as well as empirical modeling.
This presentation reviews how modeling tools have been used in a variety of industries, in order to establish the design space and ultimately ensure robust commercial manufacturing processes.
