Topline growth is becoming a significant challenge in today's competitive world. New products and technology can give you the required edge. However, in energy and process industry, the product or technology development cycles tend to be significantly long and very innovations see the light of the day. One major reason for this is 'valley of death' for R&D projects.

This paper presents an overview of 'innovation catalysts',a breed of firms that thrive on making R&D as their core function and providing the bridge required for R&D projects to pass beyond a critical stage. A satellite model of R&D will be discussed. Using such a model companies can overcome the valley of death and launch more new products and technology.
