Polyethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMEMA), a versatile macromonomer, used to be produced in a two step process which includes prepration of polyethylene glycol methyl ether (PEGME) and esterification of PEGME with methylacrylic acid. We develop a process to synthesis PEGMEMA, which directly inserts ethylene oxide into methyl methacrylate over a Mg-Al composed oxide catalyst. For a higher yield of the macromonomer, the formulation of the catalyst and the polymerization inhibitor were well investigated.
