Monday, November 9, 2009 - 8:30am to 11:00am
The emissions and performance of a variety of plant oils against each other and petro-diesel is tested and compared. Plant oils used in the experiment include sunflower oil, peanut oil, canola oil, and soybean oil. Experiments are conducted using a Yanmar L70EE single cylinder, four cycle, air cooled diesel engine. Each fuel's performance is determined at controlled RPM. Data on torque, horsepower, and emissions are collected and compared. Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides are measured using ECOM-AC electrochemical sensor based emission-analyzer. The data collected at each RPM value is analyzed and presented.
