AIChE has partnered with other engineering societies to examine the best way to attract young people to the study of engineering. One step in this process has been the 2008 report "Changing the Conversation" by the National Academy of Engineers which emphasizes ways that we can improve the public understanding of engineering and attract young people to careers in engineering. This session will highlight examples of best practices within the AIChE Community that help fill the K-12 pipeline particularly those with an eye on increasing diversity within the discipline. Through a combination of invited speakers and interactive learning experiences, AIChE members and leaders in K-12 service outreach will learn and share best practices with thought leaders in the field of supplementary and informal STEM education. Local sections leaders will gain strategies for improving the effectivenss and reach of their programs.
