In this presentation, we will discuss the processing and properties of poly (hydroxy butanoic acid) or PHB copolymer blown films with an emphasis on structure-property relationships. The mechanical properties of these films will be compared to those of other biodegradable flexible packaging options and various film grade polyethylenes. Particular emphasis will be paid to the influence exerted by film fabrication conditions on the resulting semi-crystalline morphology and product performance. Finally, some applications that highlight the value of biodegradable films will also be discussed.
