(12g) Use of Zwitterionic Hydrogel Based On Poly(carboxybetaine) for Glucose Sensors

In order to protect implanted glucose sensors from biofouling, novel zwitterionic hydrogels based on poly(carboxybetaine) were developed. To enhance the linearity, sensitivity, and the adhesion ability, two methods including physical adsorption and chemical adsorption was developed. Results show that the Pt/GOx sensors-coated with carboxybetaine methacrylate (CBMA) hydrogel via chemical method possess very high sensitivity and good linearity to glucose in PBS, 10% , 50%, and 100% human blood serum. Essentially identical glucose signals are observed before and after exposure to blood samples over 12 days. The excellent performance of CBMA hydrogel offers great promise for designing biocompatible implantable glucose biosensors.
