Polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers of different generations (-0.5, 0.0, and 0.5) are coated onto Nafion polymeric membranes. The uncoated and the dendrimer coated Nafion membranes are characterized using different analytical tools: Optical absorption, Variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (J.A.Woollam Co., model VASE), Thermo gravimetric analyser (TGA), Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), Dynamic mechanical analyser (DMA), Scanning electron micrscopy (SEM), and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). The Cauchy dispersive fits for the bare Nafion and the dendrimer coated Nafion membranes were performed using the WVASE32 version 3.717 software of the spectroscopic ellipsometer. The uncoated as well as the dendrimer coated Nafion membranes show normal dispersion. It is observed that the coated membranes have higher glass transition temperature (Tg), and they are stable for higher temperatures. The surface roughness of the coated membranes were less than the bare Nafion membranes.
