Cerium oxide or ceria has unique metal oxide properties and has been widely used as catalyst for automotive exhaust emission control, silicon wafer polishing slurry and gas sensing material. Ceria has high thermal stability and electrical conductivity and diffusivity. Ceria is also very promising as biosensor material. In this work , we compare the surface properties of ceria nanostructured materials including nanoparticles, nanocubes, nanowire. Ceria nanostructured materials were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The shape and size of the synthesized nanoceria were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The surface areas of the synthesized nanoceria were determined by BET. The surface compositions of the nanoceria were determined by performing X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. Electrochemical method was used to compare catalytic redox reaction of the synthesized nanceria materials.
