The author is professor and the head of the new Bavarian research center ?Energy Campus Nuremberg?. The motto of the research center is research on energy chains. The source of energy is always the sun light.
This lecture will concentrate on the energy transport besides electricity. The choice is to use the existing network of energy supply based on coal and oil. The compounds replacing the old fossile energy are called ?energy carrying compounds? (ECC). Two different ECC's will be demonstrated: CaO as a solid carrier and N-ethylcarbazol as a liquid carrier.
Both compounds will be evaluated in terms of thermodynamics and chemical engineering. The advantage compared to electricity is the unlimited amount of storage and no losses during storage.
It is obvious that in future different networks of energy supply will exist.
