Clathrate hydrates have steadily emerged as an important field in the areas of energy storage and resource, flow assurance, and environment. To better understand the role of hydrates in all of these areas, fundamental knowledge developed in laboratory experiments have to be effectively transferred to address the challenges related to hydrate formation, dissociation, agglomeration, and stability. This talk highlights some of the recent developments on the fundamental understanding and applications of clathrate hydrates focusing on the thermodynamics, kinetics, structural properties, particle properties, rheological properties, and molecular mechanism.
