Experimental results will be presented which have been posed blind to fluid dynamic modeling community as a challenge problem in order to benchmark the performance of computational models when simulating gas-solids flow in an industrial scale cold flow circulating fluidized bed (CFB). The challenge problem statement as posted on the web https://mfix.netl.doe.gov included description of the detailed NETL CFB system configuration, operating conditions, as well as hydrodynamic sampling locations. Pressure profiles along the length of the riser will be reported as measured for 3 operating conditions for Geldart Group B material and 2 test conditions for Group A particles fluidized in air. Radial velocity, flux, and concentrations were measured at several axial locations using several measurement techniques. These mesurements were qualified by evaluating the integrated measurements relative to the controlled solids flow rates. Both gas and solids tracers were injected in the riser and dispersion measured made in both the axial and radial directions downstream from the injection locations. Finally, time dependent pressure fluctuations were measured. These data are compared and contrasted in preparation for validation of simulation entries.
