Poster Session: Sustainability and Sustainable Biorefineries
Tuesday, November 9, 2010 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
BioSUCCEED has been a successful teaching & research approach to generating and providing data and content in biomass and bioenergy to accelerate the advent of the biorefinery. NC State, University of Tennessee-Agricultural Station, and NC Agricultural & Mechanical State University have formed a strong cooperative that focuses on generating and delivering learning content at both the graduate and undergraduate levels to that end. Among the six disciplines overviewed, this specific presentation will deal with the thermal platform as one of the principal avenues for the production of biofuels for a biorefinery that processes wood and its associated residuals. This presentation will highlight the relevant concepts in this area, the advances made thus far, the current challenges in front of us, and our attempts to address these challenges. We will provides a review of our work in wood and agricultural residuals with respect to its heating under a window of temperatures and the resultant analysis with respect to modeling and chemical analyses.
