Poster Session On Engineering Education
Monday, November 8, 2010 - 8:30am to 11:00am
In 2002, an effort was taken by our sophmore Che students to educate high school junior/senior students providing informations on field of chemical and engieering in general to high school students. Our che students made presentations on high school sites as part of che measurement lab.course requirement. These presentations served two objectives. One for communication ability and social awareness.Another to provide understanding and importance and needs for engineers to high school students.
Originally, high school teachers were provided with evaluation forms assessing presentation content materials and quality of presentation delivery. Upon reviewing data for 6 years, in the 2008 ,the evaluation forms were revised to allow for teachers to also comment on student presentation strngths, weakeness, and suggestions for improvement. These additional comments resulted in focusing more in the area of communications that would benefit our sophmore the most.In addition data collected over last 8 years indicated more successful recruitng of high school studentds into eng'g field.
In summary, this program showed the increase in awareness and understanding, the importance and need to pursue eng'g degree by high school students.
