Tadpole-shaped gold nanoparticles were prepared by the reduction of HAuCl4 in the presence of Na2SO4, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) assisted by ultrasound. PEG acted as both reducer and protective agent in reacted solutions. The heads of tadpole-like gold nanoparticles are single crystals with triangular or hexagonal shapes and their sizes are about 100 nm. Their tails's sizes even longer than 300 nm. However, the tail's size can be controlled by the Na2SO4-SDS-PEG soft template form 10 to 400 nm.
