I will outline my past and present research and teaching efforts, as well as my future plans. I will detail how my research progressed from (i) developing novel gram-scale and green nanosynthetic strategies, to (ii) inventing a nanomaterial processing platform, to (iii) discovering polymer-like nanowires, to (iv) finding new principles in CO2 capture and in the electrical manipulation of combustion, to (v) my future plans of using (nano)materials strategies for the solution of environmental emergencies. I will also outline my past and present efforts as a textbook author and my teaching philosophy. Behind the diverse range of research topics I explored is the determination to follow the most unconventional ideas about the creation, manipulation, and use of materials, with the final objective of contributing to the solution of the most difficult and important scientific questions and problems.
