Papers on novel synthesis routes and/or applications of functional nanoparticles and their coatings are sought. Although the emphasis is on nanoparticles (< 100 nm), studies on larger particle systems are also welcome. Coating a thin film of inorganic and/or organic materials on the particle surface will be highlighted to achieve a specific physical, optical, electronic, chemical or biomedical property. Special emphasis will be paid to in-situ surface functionalization of nanoparticles tailoring their properties to achieve high performance in the final application, e.g. to enhance catalytic activity, band structure or dispersion in polymer matrices. Authors are encouraged to present the connection between synthesis conditions, chemical and crystal composition, structure and the surface functionality in specific applications.
