This session examines innovative alternatives to solvent-based and oxyfuel carbon capture processes that have rigorously defendable performance advantages in terms of energy and cost and have at least some experimental verification of the process. One of the featured processes is cryogenic carbon capture, a process in which CO2 desublimates in the flue gas. Additional potential processes include chemical looping and solvent-based systems with condensed-phase CO2 separation. Biomass cofiring with coal will also be discussed both in conjunction with the other carbon capture systems and as a separate technology.
