Advances in the field of green chemistry and sustainability have motivated the development of new pilot plant technologies, processes, and practices. Recyclable solvent systems, solvent-free chemistries, closed loop cooling systems, continuous processes, and brown water systems are but a few of the practices currently finding favour in new and developing pilot plants. A second theme involves the use of bio-based or recycled feedstocks for production fuels and chemicals. This session provides an opportunity to share both successes and failures in the implementation of green and sustainable processes in pilot plants.
