(100c) Membranes In Electrochemical Energy Applications

The use of ion conducting membranes in electrochemical applications has been an area of rising interest due largely to the areas of fuel cells and batteries.  Both of these systems depend on ion conducting membranes to separate electrodes and provide ion transport to complete electrochemical half reactions.  The requirements of membranes in various electrochemical systems will be presented with the advances to date and those still required being highlighted.  The area of polmer electrolyte fuel cell membranes will receive emphasis due to the specific expertise of the speaker.
