(168b) Fundamentals of Electrodialysis

Electrodialysis has been used for water desalination, whey demineralization, etc.  It is an electrically driven membrane process that separates charged salts and acids from uncharged sugars, etc.  New applications such as bipolar electrodialysis and electrodeionization are leading the separation technique in new directions.  This paper will be a tutorial looking at basic theory, an overview of past and current applications, and opionions on new directions for electrodialysis.
