A solid-solid drag model is used to simulate segregation rates in binary mixtures of Geldart D-type particles differing in size. Three cases with different mixture compositions are simulated and compared to available experimental data. The superficial gas velocity in each case is adopted to match the experimental conditions. The performance of the proposed model is then compared with the solid-solid drag model available in the literature. The comparison shows that the solid-solid drag model in the present study predicts the segregation rate better than the one found in the literature. Furthermore, a modification to the literature model is made by introducing an energy scaling factor. The simulation results show that the modified model also provides a better prediction of the segregation rate.
