(343c) Asset Revitalization for Cleaned-up Department of Energy Sites

For decades, Department of Energy (DOE) sites and their surrounding communities have played a vital role in supporting the nation’s nuclear weapons defense mission. Thanks to investments through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, many sites that were critical to supporting national defense are poised to build a new future. DOE footprint reduction and environmental cleanup efforts have created opportunities to transition existing Federal properties and other assets to future beneficial uses. This paper highlights some of the activities underway and potential opportunities to reutilize DOE sites assets for beneficial purposes, such as clean energy development, environmental cleanup sustainability projects, open space or other uses.
