Black TiO2, prepared by high temperature H2 treatment, was characterized and used for converting CO2 into fuel. Visible light absorption by TiO2 was significantly improved after H2 treatment, which is expected to generate more charge pairs for surface reactions. In this study, black TiO2 aggregates were coated with Pt nanoparticles and deposited as thin films for photocatalytic CO2 conversion. Our preliminary results showed that fuel forming rate increased dramatically by optimizing water vapor pressure in a static photo-reactor and Pt loading. Further studt is conducted to understand fundamental reaction mechanisms.
