Process Design is usually a senior level course or courses. These courses have the task of bringing realistic thinking about open ended design type problems to the student while at the same time introducing modern tools to enhance the speed and computational power available to the engineer to accomplish this task. In some respects these tasks are in conflict with each other. Students often focus on developing skills with using the tools to the exclusion of addressing the challenge of addressing the actual problems they are tasked to do. These issues and ways of addressing them are addressed are addressed here.
