In this research, we proposed a novel method for analyzing the fluidized bed systems. We applied the analogy between flow behavior of fluidized bed and electric analog circuit with correlations of pressure to voltage, solid mass flux to electric current and hydraulic resistance to electric resistance. Equivalent circuit model were generally used in electronic equipment designs, especially integrated circuit (IC) and print circuit board (PCB). Usually, equivalent circuit model is translated to “SPICE” model for simulating its electric circuit behavior. Circuit simulation program SPICE is widely used, in this program SPICE model is solved to design analog circuits and digital circuits. SPICE program can calculate large scale modeling problem such as VLSI and complex analog circuit such as PCB. Then by using SPICE, we will be able to solve the complex and large size problem of flow behavior of a fluidized bed. By applying the method of equivalent circuit model and SPICE simulation, it will become possible to gain new methodology about the scale up problem, startup and shutdown procedure, stability of operation condition, etc.

Our final goal is to develop the novel analysis and design a model for the fluidized bed reactor. We will report the first result where the equivalent circuit method is applied to the fluidized bed flow behavior.
